When dog training becomes frustrating (“My dog just doesn’t get it!”), take a break and assess:
– What type of treat/reward are you using? It may not be motivating enough for your dog. You can switch to a different type of food treat or use something else, like a toy or belly scratch, that your dog likes even more.
– If your dog is too distracted to focus on the training, move to an area where there are fewer distractions.
– Try rapid treat delivery. For example, after you ask your dog to sit, give the command “stay” and give tiny treat pieces every 2-3 seconds.
– If necessary, take a break. Play with your dog for a few minutes, have some fun, and then return to training.
